Shaping the energy transition safely: Visit the VDE at E-World 2025 in Essen

The VDE will be represented at Europe's largest energy trade fair from 11 to 13 February 2025 in Hall 4, F117 with bundled expertise in all aspects of digitalization and control in the low-voltage sector. The focus is on building a secure infrastructure for millions of consumers and streamlining administration by creating a common database for all participants. Interested journalists can find out about all current issues at the expert panel on the All Electric Society, the workshop on the Redispatch 3.0 funding project and at the exhibition stands.

(Frankfurt a. M., 31.01.2025) Digitalization in the distribution grid and control in the low-voltage range using smart metering systems are two core elements of the energy transition. The expansion is currently running at full speed, whereby the basis for all measures is the establishment of a secure infrastructure. The importance of this topic is currently demonstrated by incidents abroad in which manufacturers of generation plants have shut down plants via a WAN connection. There is currently no legal framework for how to deal with this problem - however, possible solutions, such as specifications for manufacturers or the definition of critical and less critical applications, are already being discussed. "VDE FNN has been supporting the development of a secure infrastructure for years and we are now ready to develop solutions together with all those involved. This will be one of the central topics at E-World," explains Frank Borchardt from VDE FNN.

Another important topic at the trade fair is the development of a so-called data ecosystem for all participants in the energy system. If, for example, data on of a system is currently stored in different versions in different places, which leads to high administrative costs, there will be a central directory for certified systems in the future. All access rights will be clearly regulated so that only authorized persons can access the approved data within the virtual ecosystem. Alexander Nollau from DKE explains: "We helped develop this structure because we are convinced that the administrative workload can be drastically reduced. At the same time, the ecosystem opens up the possibility of developing new business models through the central provision and networking of data - keyword virtual power plants & co."

VDE presents pioneering solutions for the energy transition

At E-World energy & water 2025, experts from VDE FNN, VDE Renewables and DKE will be available for background discussions at stand F117 in hall 4. We would also like to invite you to our events:

  • On 11.02. from 10 to 11 a.m., the DKE is organizing an expert exchange on the topic of "Consumers in the All Electric Society" : as part of the "Change Forum"What does the concept of the "All Electric Society", which is currently being developed internationally and at European level, look like? How can electrical and information technology be organized in such a way that all relevant sectors of electricity generation, distribution and use are integrated and made usable for customers? What role do the digital product passport and so-called "dataspaces" play in this development?
  • On February 11 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, experts from VDE FNN will be available at the VDE stand to answer your detailed questions about the current status of the smart meter rollout and control via intelligent metering systems as well as their further development.
  • On February 12 from 1 to 3 p.m, a workshop on the VDE SPEC Redispatch 3.0 will take place. The aim of the Redispatch 3.0 funding project is to improve the integration of low-voltage systems and the cooperation and exchange of information between distribution and transmission system operators. The workshop is dedicated to the draft of VDE SPEC 90032 V1.0 (de), which deals with the architecture and processes for congestion management in the distribution grid with systems below 100 kW (micro-flexibilities). Anyone wishing to find out more about the contents of the standard and take part in the discussion can register by sending an email to athina.savvidis@vde.com.

Interested parties are also invited to visit VDE Verlag and the event platform essociation at stand GA 37 in the gallery to find out more about the comprehensive services and offers.

Press representatives with accreditation receive free access to the trade fair and all conferences (depending on capacity) on all three days of the fair.
