IFA 2024: E-associations stand for over 100 years of electrifying and smart ideas

Smart homes, climate-friendly buildings, safe electrical appliances: VDE, ZVEH and ZVEI are jointly presenting their solutions for electrification and digitalization in the consumer sector at IFA.

(Frankfurt a. M., August 06, 2024) VDE, ZVEH and ZVEI will be back at the anniversary IFA. From September 6 to 10, 2024, they will be demonstrating how smart and connected ideas can make everyday life more convenient and safer while also helping to save energy.

The three associations congratulate the IFA on its 100th birthday but can also look back on a remarkable history themselves. Each of them stands for over 100 years of know-how and expertise in electronic and electrotechnical products and systems, their manufacture and their safe use.

The VDE, ZVEH and ZVEI will be showcasing many of the smart innovations from the e-industry that are having a positive impact on our everyday lives in the House of Smart Living (Hall 1.2, Stand 110). Here, trade fair visitors can find out how energy can be saved with the help of building automation and what contribution modern digital building technology can make to a climate-neutral future. The applications on show in the House of Smart Living are not dreams of the future, but demonstrate the current state of the art and invite visitors to try them out in a fun way.

At the joint stand, visitors can also playfully experience how professions in the electrical industry contribute to climate protection: with the Eco Score Challenge, visitors virtually immerse themselves in a building and design it to be as energy-efficient as possible. The technical solutions for this already exist outside of virtual reality. Consistent electrification and digitalization as well as the use of smart technologies can significantly reduce energy consumption in buildings and the carbon footprint. Considering that existing buildings in Germany account for 35% of total energy consumption, there is enormous potential here in terms of climate targets that needs to be leveraged.

Voices from the associations

"In order to secure a future worth living for us and future generations, the course towards sustainability must be set right now. The elementary and ubiquitous technologies of electrical and digital engineering, combined with our experience and openness to new technologies, are helping us to shape precisely this sustainable future. Combined with the creativity and innovative spirit of young and committed talents, I am confident that we can achieve our ambitious goals together," says Ansgar Hinz, CEO of the VDE Group.

"Buildings are not only becoming more electric, they are also becoming smarter and therefore more interactive. In the House of Smart Living, we show technically feasible functions with which the building can adapt independently to the needs of its residents and users. At the same time, the building adapts to its surroundings as part of the neighborhood, the energy system and the information network. The building thus becomes an intelligent, interactive platform for living, working, generating energy and satisfying many other needs of society. The trade knows the needs of its customers and offers individual solutions," says ZVEH Managing Director Alexander Neuhäuser.

"We urgently need a turnaround in efficiency in the building sector in order to make sustainable CO2 savings. This is made possible by the smart interplay of electrification, digitalization and automation. This will allow us to save up to 65 percent of primary energy. If we cleverly generate, use, store and distribute electrical energy in buildings and neighborhoods, we not only reduce operating costs in the long term, but also make a significant contribution to achieving climate targets. However, this also means that the electrical infrastructure in older buildings needs to be upgraded," says Sarah Bäumchen, Managing Director of ZVEI.
