VDE Special Committee Lightning Protection and Research

The VDE Special Committee Lightning Protection and Research (VDE ABB) and its expert committees focus their work on research and application. Its mission is to promote and disseminate knowledge about lightning, its effects and protective measures through

• Fact sheets, technical books, websites, apps
• symposia, seminars, lectures
• Analysis of lightning accidents, lightning damage and lightning data
• Research projects
• Participation in the development of national and international norms and standards
• Cooperation with associations, authorities, etc.
• Promotion of young scientists.

To this end, more than 110 experts from the fields of lightning protection, surge protection and lightning research are involved in expert groups. Their work supports and disseminates our sponsors, more than 80 companies, organizations and private individuals.

Standardization in lightning protection is carried out by the expert committees of the standards organization DKE, the German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE.
