Certification Marks and Attestations

To create the prerequisites for market entry in the European economic area, certain electrical products need the EU declaration of conformity from a notified body as verification that the protection goals for safety and EMC have been achieved. The VDE Testing and Certification Institute is notified under ID no 0366 and offers tests and conformity verifications for the following EU directives:

• EU Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU
• EU Directive on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) 2014/30/EU
• EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EU
• EU Directive 2014/53/EU Making radio equipment available on the market
• EU Directive on Noise Emission (outdoor directive) 2000/14/EU
• EU Measuring Instruments Directive 2014/32/EU
• Construction Products Regulation 305/2011/EU (CPR)

The CE marking is a mandatory marking for a product to be placed on the market for the first time within the European Economic Area and therefore is a requirement for the distribution and sale of products. The manufacturer must declare the conformity with the directory and affix the CE marking on the product or on accompanying documents. This mark is affixed by the manufacturer. It is therefore not a safety symbol. Although it does not address the end user and does not serve as a proof for quality, the CE mark is often misunderstood as a safety mark.

In order to prove the overall safety of a product by adhering to the safety standards, however, its voluntary testing and certification by independent institutions are still useful. With the VDE certification, you will receive a confirmation of compliance with essential safety objectives in accordance with EU directives. The fulfillment of these protection targets is a requirement for market entry in the European economic area.
