VDE Renewables are supporting the Battery Pass Project by covering technical guidance regarding circularity and performance aspects of batteries, in particular industrial batteries, beyond automotive applications. The Pass is necessary to build an in depth understanding of the upcoming battery regulation. It is the only project in Europe that aims to go deeper into the demonstrator and the related documents, that will lead to real guidance for the deployment and management of this system.
In addition to this we are building the bridge to the standardization bodies: On the one hand by checking if there are standards available and on the other hand, we are responsible for communication among the working groups regarding future necessary standardization activities.
Our current work focus is on the detailed characterization and evaluation of circularity and performance metrics along the battery value chain. Within the consortium we define possible technical solutions with respect to all involved stakeholders. Furthermore, we are responsible for verifying the auditability of the metrics and relevant processes.
The EU Battery Pass is still in development, and it is not yet clear when or how it will be implemented. However, it is likely to be an important tool in promoting the adoption of sustainable batteries and EVs, and in helping consumers make informed decisions about their purchases.
